Instructions for Searching for an Enterprise in the Enterprise Register
You can search for an enterprise in the enterprise register by Québec enterprise number (NEQ), by file number (corresponds to a number recorded in the central enterprise database or the database of public authorities), by name or by keyword. Follow the steps below to carry out a search.
Search by NEQ or by file number
- Click FIND AN ENTERPRISE. This will take you to an online service that is in French only.
- Under Objet de la recherche, enter the NEQ or file number of the enterprise you are searching for.
- Click Rechercher (search).
It should be noted that it is not useful to specify the scope of a search by NEQ, since the first two digits of the NEQ indicate the legal form of the enterprise. A list of legal forms is available on the Register Terminology page.
Search by name or by keyword
To conduct a search by name or by keyword, click Recherche avancée (advanced search).
Search by name
- Enter the exact name of the enterprise.
- Under Type de recherche (search type), select Par nom (search by name).
- Under Étendue de la recherche (scope of the search), select either Sociétés des personnes (partnerships), Entreprises individuelles (sole proprietorships), Personnes morales (legal persons) or Tous (all).
- Click Rechercher (search).
Search by keywords
- Enter a maximum of five words, separated by spaces.

2. Under Type de recherche (search type), select Par mots (by keywords) or Par mots apparentés (by related words).
- Keywords: The search by keywords includes the words specified and words with almost identical spellings.
- Related words: The search by related words includes the words specified, words with almost identical spellings and their semantic equivalents (words with the same meaning). This type of search produces a more comprehensive result, including certain synonyms of the words sought.
- Under Étendue de la recherche (scope of the search), select either Sociétés des personnes (partnerships), Entreprises individuelles (sole proprietorships), Personnes morales (legal persons) or Tous (all).
- Click Rechercher (Search).
Note that search results will contain AT LEAST the words entered or their synonyms.

The search is conducted using the current or previous name of a business corporation, an association or a group, a natural person operating a sole proprietorship or a legal person. This search excludes all of the other names that these enterprises use, such as assumed names.

This search is conducted using all of the names declared in the register of sole proprietorships, partnerships and legal persons.

Words to avoid in searches by keywords or related words

Words of a general nature
Certain overly general words cannot be used alone for the search, except for a search by name.
A search conducted using the words listed opposite would produce too many results. Please note that this list is not exhaustive.

Consult the list of files found
When you conduct a search using a file number or a Québec enterprise number (NEQ), the enterprise’s information statement is immediately displayed.
When you conduct a search by name, keywords or related words, the result will comprise several enterprises listed according to the following criteria:
- the enterprise’s file number or NEQ
- the name of the enterprise
- the domicile address
- the registration status
- the date of registration status
Furthermore, the total number of files found for the search is shown. However, only the first 500 results are displayed.
In addition to the items mentioned earlier, each enterprise file includes, among other things,
- the establishments
- related persons (directors, shareholders, partners, etc.)
- the other names used in Québec
- microfilmed and digitized documents
You can print an enterprise’s file.
Consult a specific file
To consult a file you must click on the hyperlink containing the enterprise’s file number or Québec enterprise number (NEQ). You will then have access to the enterprise’s information statement.
You can save or print the enterprise’s file once the information is displayed.
