Changes to the Classification des activités économiques du Québec

When an enterprise registers with the Registraire des entreprises or updates its information in the enterprise register, it must provide the economic activity codes corresponding to its two main activities, as well as the codes for the two main activities of each of its establishments.

On May 16, 2016, changes will be made to the Classification des activités économiques du Québec (CAEQ). In cooperation with the Organisme d'autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ), the Québec Interprofessional Council and the 46 professional orders constituted under the Professional Code (CQLR, c. C-26), the Registraire des entreprises will make changes to the CAEQ so that prescribed economic activities are more easily identifiable. The economic activity codes concerned are the activities overseen by the OACIQ and the professional orders.

Information messages will be added to the Registraire des entreprises' online services and website. The messages will state that, in order to use the economic codes related to professional orders, a person must hold a permit issued by the professional order concerned and be entered on that order's roll or hold an authorization issued by a body responsible for protecting the public.

Please consult the list of economic activity codes that will be changed on May 16, 2016, to verify whether any of the codes you declared in the enterprise register will be changed. If you must update your economic activity codes, a current or annual updating declaration may have to be filed after May 16, 2016, in order to amend these codes.

For more information about a specific code, contact the OACIQ or the professional order concerned.
