The Registraire des Entreprises Honoured with IACA Merit Award

The Registraire des entreprises was one of six 2012 Merit Award winners honoured by the International Association of Commercial Administrators (IACA). The recognition was bestowed on the Registraire for its work in implementing changes respecting its activities and changes related to the evolution of legislation governing Québec businesses. The IACA Merit Awards raise awareness about outstanding innovations in North American jurisdictions (and beyond) respecting the application of various laws governing businesses and their activities.

On May 20, 2012, Registrar Yves Bannon and Denis Racine from the Direction du registraire des entreprises accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the Registraire at the Annual Conference of the IACA in Williamsburg, Virginia. The other award-winning jurisdictions were Colorado, Germany and Jersey, Hawaii, Virginia and West Virginia.

Since February 14, 2011, the Registraire has been governed by two new innovatory laws that facilitate the electronic exchange of documents. These laws make it possible to constitute a business corporation and to register a sole proprietorship online. The Business Corporations Act is among the most forward-looking legislation respecting the management of businesses, while the Act Respecting the Legal Publicity of Enterprises and the register it governs are of greater scope than any such legislation or registers in all of Canada.

Moreover, the Registraire makes available a multitude of data online. This online information is used by many businesses, law firms, financial institutions and government organizations to conduct their business.
